Results are in. SLAM basketball standout voted Dade High School Athlete of the Week

SLAM girls’ basketball standout Jim’miyah Branton is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Branton, a junior, had 21 points in the regional semifinals against Monsignor Pace and scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Titans to an 84-55 victory. SLAM then went on to beat Boynton Beach Somerset Canyons in the regional finals before its season ended with a 46-43 loss to Jacksonville Bishop Kenny in the Class 4A state semifinals.

SLAM finished the season 23-4. Branton led the team averaging 14.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Riviera Prep boys’ basketball’s Dante Allen, Miami Country Day girls’ basketball’s Kayle Nelms, Gulliver Prep boys’ soccer’s Jacob Lombard and Doral Academy boys’ soccer’s Yitzhak Calatrava rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
