Results are in. St. Brendan soccer standout voted Dade High School Athlete of the Week
St. Brendan girls’ soccer standout Kyara Ormazabal is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Ormazabal scored three goals to lead the Sabres to a 4-0 win over Key West and the District 16-4A championship. St. Brendan’s season ended one game later with a 3-2 loss in the regional quarterfinals to Delray American Heritage.
St. Brendan went 5-7-3. Ormazabal led the team with 18 goals while adding five assists.
Miami Beach boys’ soccer’s Daniel Jurado, True North boys’ basketball’s J-Roc Lopez, Palmetto girls’ soccer’s Catherine Green and South Dade boys’ wrestling’s Sawyer Bartelt rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
