Florida Christian football standout Dylan Gonzalez is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Gonzalez, a junior, ran for 242 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Patriots to a win over Hialeah ABF Academy.
On the season, Gonzalez has rushed for 714 yards and 10 touchdowns on 122 carries — a 5.9 yards per carry average — and has two games with at least 100 rushing yards.
Columbus boys’ cross-country’s Alejandro Romagosa, Doral Academy girls’ volleyball’s Melissa Gonzalez, Belen Jesuit boys’ golf’s Lorenzo Rodriguez and Southridge girls’ cross-country’s Nicole Dragoni rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
