True North volleyball standout Dayleen Valdes is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Valdes, a freshman, had 17 kills to lead the Titans to a win over Archbishop Carroll and their first ever district championship.

For the season, which ended in the regional quarterfinals, Valdes recorded 213 kills, 60 aces and 104 digs.

Divine Savior girls’ volleyball’s Sasha Kawas, Belen Jesuit boys’ golf’s Lorenzo Rodriguez, Miami Springs girls’ golf’s Gia Culler-Guerra and Coral Gables boys’ golf’s Lorenzo Cantarel rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
