True North football standout Jonathan Bueno is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Bueno, a freshman, ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries to lead the Titans to a 21-9 win over Naples First Baptist.
On the season, Bueno has rushed for 411 yards and seven touchdowns on 51 carries — an average of 8.1 yards per rush — and also has five catches for 99 yards and another two touchdowns to help the Titans to a perfect 5-0 record.
Carrollton girls’ cross country’s Daniela Hernandez, Miami Norland football’s Ennio Yapoor, Doral Academy girls’ volleyball’s Melissa Gonzalez and Ransom Everglades boys’ cross country’s David Serra rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
