Coral Reef softball standout Rachel Hawkins is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Hawkins, a junior, went 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Barracudas to a 13-4 win over Palmetto and the District 16-7A championship.
On the season, Hawkins is hitting .444 and leads the team in RBI (29), home runs (seven) and runs scored (32). Coral Reef is 21-6-1 heading into its Region 4-7A semifinal game at Lake Worth Park Vista on Tuesday.
Columbus baseball Lester Martinez, Southridge girls’ track and field’s Cynteria James, Miami Springs baseball’s Brandon Olivera and Miami Christian baseball’s Dylan Prince rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
