Coral Reef softball standout Rachel Hawkins is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Hawkins, a senior infielder, went 4 for 4 with two home runs and six RBI to lead the Barracudas to an 11-4 win over rival Palmetto on March 28, the first of five games — all wins — for Coral Reef last week.
On the season, Hawkins is hitting .415 and leads Coral Reef with 23 RBI, 22 runs scored and five home runs. The Barracudas are 13-6-1.
Somerset Silver Palms flag football’s Jaida Bayron, True North baseball’s Austin Simmons, Monsignor Pace baseball’s Sean Duffin and St. Brendan baseball’s Luis Suarez rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
