Results are in. Westminster Christian soccer standout voted Dade High School Athlete of the Week
Westminster Christian girls soccer’s Carolina Monterrey is the Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Monterrey, a sophomore, scored the game-winning goal for the No. 4 seed Warriors in a 1-0 win over No. 1 seed Palmer Trinity in the Region 4-3A semifinals. Westminster Christian lost in the regional finals to No. 2 seed University School on Tuesday.
On the season, Monterrey led the Warriors with 12 goals and also added five assists. Westminster Christian finished the season 9-7-1.
True North girls’ soccer’s Aliyana Henry, St. Brendan boys’ basketball’s Jonas Duque, Palmetto boys’ basketball’s Matthew Mairena, Horeb Christian girls’ basketball’s Emely Rodriguez and Coral Gables boys’ soccer’s Jordan Bueso rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
