Results are in. Lourdes standout is fans’ choice for top Dade girls’ volleyball player

Lourdes’ Sofia Santamaria is the fans’ choice for top girls’ volleyball player in Dade for the 2022 season, as voted on by readers.

Santamaria, a senior, averaged a team-high 2.4 kills per set while also logging 210 total digs and 48 aces to help Lourdes go 21-8 on the season and advance to the regional finals for the first time in school history.

More than 233,000 votes were cast in the poll, with Santamaria receiving 40 percent of the votes. Gulliver Prep’s Jackie Taylor, Lourdes’ Olivia Guzman, Doral Academy’s Izabela Molina and Lourdes’ Carmen Rios rounded out the top-five vote getters.

All players who were on the Miami Herald’s All-County first team were listed on the ballot.

Molina and Westminster Christian’s Gaby Arroyo were previously named the Miami Herald’s girls’ volleyball players of the year for this season.
