Results are in. Northwestern edge rusher voted the fans’ Dade football defensive MVP
Northwestern Bulls edge rusher Toddrick Brewton is the fans’ choice for top defensive player in Dade for the 2022 season, as voted on by readers.
Brewton, a senior, bolstered the Bulls’ defense against the pass and run in the state’s toughest classification, leading them to the Class 2M regional semifinals. Northwestern went 6-5 last season, with all of its losses coming against teams that reached their respective state championship game (Chaminade-Madonna, Central twice, Columbus and Homestead).
Brewton was one of 10 players on the poll, which received 3,373 votes.
The other nine: Gulliver Prep’s Lamong Green Jr., Columbus’ Daylen Russell, Belen Jesuit’s Gavench Marcelin, Central’s Rueben Bain, Norland’s Jermaine Beard, Booker T. Washington’s Ben Hanks Jr., Central’s Stanquan Clark, Homestead’s Eduardo Nunez and Palmetto’s Bobby Wshington.
The Miami Herald will be publishing its choices for Dade County Players of the Year for football in late January.
