Palmer Trinity football standout Aden Davenport is the Miami-Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Davenport, a senior quarterback, completed 12 of 17 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Falcons to a 27-24 upset win over Archbishop Carroll in the Region 4-1M semifinals.
It was only the third playoff win ever for Palmer Trinity and first since 2018. On the season, Davenport has completed 99 of 153 passes for 1,673 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions.
More than 20,000 votes were cast in this week’s poll, with Davenport receiving 58 percent of the votes. Miami Norland linebacker Jermaine Beard Jr., Miami Columbus linebacker Hector Chavez, Gulliver girls’ soccer standout Ana Levy-Armesto and Miami Country Day swimmer Dylan Smiley rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
