Results are in. Palmetto football standout voted Dade High School Athlete of the Week
Palmetto football standout Willis McGahee IV is the Miami-Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
McGahee, a junior, recorded five sacks including two forced fumbles and recovered one of them to key Palmetto’s 37-13 win over West Broward in a Region 4-4M quarterfinal.
On the season, McGahee has 50 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss and eight sacks, along with four forced fumbles.
More than 63,000 votes were cast in this week’s poll, with McGahee receiving 78 percent of the votes. Doral Academy football’s Mark Wilder, Palmer Trinity girls’ soccer’s Scarlett Baur, Booker T. Washington football’s Antwan Smith and Florida Christian boys’ golf’s Nicholas Prieto rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
