Results are in. Gulliver volleyball standout voted Dade High School Athlete of the Week
Gulliver Prep girls’ volleyball middle hitter Jackie Taylor is the Miami-Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Taylor, a junior, has been a key player for a Raiders squad that is off to a 12-1 start this season. Her latest highlight came in a four-set win over Southwest Miami when she logged 21 kills and 10 blocks. Taylor, the daughter of the late former University of Miami and NFL star Sean Taylor, dedicated the win to her father.
Taylor followed up that performance with eight kills and a block in a three-game sweep of Palmer Trinity.
On the season, Taylor has logged 150 kills on a .346 hitting percentage to go along with 41 blocks.
More than 61,000 votes were cast in this poll, with Taylor receiving 52 percent of the votes. Doral Academy running back Mark Wilder, Booker T. Washington running back Antwan Smith, Florida Christian boys’ golfer Nicholas Prieto and Palmer Trinity girls’ golfer Remi Bacardi rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
