Mater Academy runs away with homecoming victory over Westland Hialeah

Behind three passing touchdowns from Temothas Herrington and two more scores from Zack Moss, Mater Academy improved to 3-0 in district play with a 43-0 homecoming victory against Westland Hialeah on Thursday night at Traz Powell Stadium.

Herrington was a perfect 9 for 9 on his passes for 143 yards. Two of his touchdown passes went to Steven Rodriguez, who finished with 104 receiving yards on five receptions.

Moss had a 49-yard touchdown run and a 65-yard kick return for a score that followed a safety off a blocked punt.

The true test for the Lions (4-2), looking to make their first playoff appearance, will come when they face Miami Springs and American on Oct. 24 and Oct. 30, respectively.

Westland (0-7) was shut out for the sixth time in its seven losses.
