American outlasts lightning delay, Hialeah-Miami Lakes in Districk 16-7A win

Lightning in the area with 1:17 left in the second quarter caused a delay of over an hour, but it didn’t stop American from going on to win, 25-6, at Milander Park.

Running back Jeremiah Pierce-Johnson had 105 yard and three touchdowns for the Patriots (4-1, 3-0) in a late-night, District 16-7A win over the Trojans.

The lone score by HML (1-5, 0-2) came on an 85-yard run by Simino Walden.

Patriots quarterback Joshua Cartwright left the game with a knee injury, and teammate Andre Penn appeared to sustain a neck injury with 13 seconds left. The severity was unknown, but he did have movement in his legs.
