Gulliver starts fast in football game that gets postponed
Brandon Shuman launched himself over a defender in the corner of the end zone and torched tacklers on a 99-yard interception return to give Gulliver a 7-6 halftime lead over Edison on Wednesday in a game that was postponted because of lightning. The District 18-4A matchup will resume at 4p.m. Monday at Gulliver.
The Raiders (2-3, 0-0 18-4A) forced five turnovers from the Red Raiders (2-2, 0-0).
“We are just trying to play team football, pursue the ball and maybe force a few turnovers and I think we were pretty successful in the first quarter and half,” Raiders coach Earl Sims said.
Shuman had two interceptions in the first half. Kristopher Trapp had an interception and Cedrick Wright had a forced fumble for the Raiders. The Raiders had three turnovers in the first half.
“The most important thing to do is regroup, to see where the corrections need to be made,” Sims said. “Not point fingers … just figure out a way to fix mistakes.”
