Jordan Alfred came up big for Mourning, which earned its first victory of the season in a District 16-7A game, defeating Westland Hialeah 14-7 on Thursday evening at Milander Park. Coming into the game, both teams were winless and had not scored in a game this season.
Alfred rushed for 183 yards and a touchdown. He also intercepted a pass with 1:23 left to help clinch the win.
“I decided to cheat up a little bit, rolled back right and came back left for the interception,” Alfred said.
Alfred scored the first touchdown for the Sharks (1-4, 1-1) on a 10-yard run in the first quarter. Late in the first quarter, the Wildcats (0-6, 0-3) answered with a 61-yard touchdown catch by Angel Garcia from Esteban Saroza.
