Stoneman Douglas baseball standout Nick Diaz is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Diaz, a junior, had the walk-off RBI single in the eighth against Windermere in the Class 7A final to secure the Eagles’ fourth consecutive state championship. He also hit a key two-run home run that helped Douglas edge Vero Beach in the semifinal.

Diaz finished the season hitting .375 with 23 RBI, six doubles, one triple, three home runs and 29 runs scored.

Dillard girls’ track and field’s Christiana Coleman, North Broward Prep baseball’s Mateo Gray, Archbishop McCarthy softball’s Chantalie Guillou and Western softball’s Danae Faiquez rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
