Somerset Academy softball standout Kelsey Gonzalez is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Gonzalez went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI to lead the Panthers to a 4-1 win over Pompano Beach in a Region 4-4A quarterfinal. Somerset Academy’s season ended in the regional semifinals.
Gonzalez finished her sophomore season hitting .302 with 18 RBI and 11 runs scored.
American Heritage softball’s Koda Travers, South Broward baseball’s Thomas Giltner, West Broward baseball’s Jason Wachs and Calvary Christian baseball’s Carlos Lugo rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
