Pembroke Pines Charter flag football standout Ava Rivera is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Rivera, a junior, threw four touchdown passes to lead the Jaguars to a 26-6 win over Homestead and clinch the school’s first trip to the state semifinals. Pines Charter plays at 4 p.m. against Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee in Tampa for a spot in the Class 1A state championship.

On the season, Rivera has completed 74.3 percent of her passes for 4,097 yards and 56 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. She has also rushed 30 times for 184 yards and another score.

North Broward Prep boys’ tennis’ Max Freedman, South Broward baseball’s Cristian Brennan and Coral Springs Charter girls’ tennis’ Juhnyee See rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
