Results are in. Sagemont basketball standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week

Sagemont boys’ basketball standout Patrick Liburd is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Liburd, a junior, scored a game-high 23 points, including seven straight points late in the fourth quarter to help the Lions beat True North and clinch a return trip to state.

He followed that up with 11 points in a 59-45 win over Jacksonville Impact Christian Academy in the Class 2A state semifinals and 10 points in Sagemont’s 50-47 win over Orlando Christian Prep as the Lions won their second consecutive state title.

Liburd finished the season leading Sagemont with 16.6 points per game while adding 5.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

St. Thomas Aquinas girls’ basketball’s Khadee Hession, North Broward Prep boys’ basketball’s Raul Perez-Ruiz, Pembroke Pines Charter boys’ basketball’s Jeremy Elyzee and Pompano Beach baseball’s Joseph Hendren rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
