Cardinal Gibbons girls’ soccer standout Julianna Torres is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Torres had a goal and an assist to help the Chiefs rally for a 2-1 win over top-seeded North Broward Prep in the Region 4-4A semifinals.
Cardinal Gibbons’ season ended one game later with a 2-0 loss to Delray American Heritage in the regional final.
Torres finished the season with four goals and four assists. Cardinal Gibbons went 10-7-3.
Highlands Christian boys’ soccer’s Joshua Oliveira, Nova girls’ basketball’s Jaelynn Housey and Monarch girls’ wrestling’s Payton Moyer rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
