Somerset Academy wrestling standout Kendrick Hodge is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Hodge scored an 18-5 major decision win over Benjamin Lewis from Live Oak Suwannee during a 165-pound finals match at the Duals wrestling state championships.
Hodge, a senior, will now look to repeat as an individual state champion as the wrestling season shifts toward preparing for the state IBT tournament. Hodge won the Class 1A title at 160 pounds last season.
South Plantation boys’ basketball’s Dwight Stephens, North Broward Prep boys’ basketball’s Raul Perez Ruiz and South Broward girls’ basketball’s Fabiana Poindujour rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
