The principal of Monarch High School and other unnamed staff members are under investigation over “allegations of improper student participation in sports,” the Broward school district said Monday.

District spokesman John Sullivan said in a statement that principal James Cecil and the other staff members have been reassigned to non-school sites pending the outcome of the investigation.

The statement did not specify how many additional staff members nor what sport or sports are included in the investigation.

“Although we cannot comment further, we will continue to follow state law and will take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation,” Sullivan said in the statement. “We are committed to providing all our students with a safe and inclusive learning environment.”

Monarch athletic director Dione Hester did not immediately return request for comment.

The BCPS statement did not specify whether the allegations had anything to do with Monarch’s football team, which is set to play in its first state semifinal on Friday night against Jacksonville Mandarin at 7:30 p.m. at Coconut Creek High School.
