St. Thomas Aquinas volleyball standout Sydney Van Cott is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Van Cott, a senior, had a combined 26 kills and 10 digs in two matches to help the Raiders win their first state championship since 2018 and seventh overall.
She finished the season with 315 kills on a .343 hitting percentage, 25 service aces, 30 blocks and 135 digs.
American Heritage girls’ glf’s Katherine Schaefer, Fort Lauderdale boys’ diving’s James Boardman, Westminster Academy football’s Dwayne Wimbley Jr., University School boys’ soccer’s Raul Leyva and Blanche Ely football’s Gary Hadley Jr. rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
