Westminster Academy football standout Anthony Barbar is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Barbar, a senior, threw for three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Lions to a 41-20 victory over NSU University School in the SSAC state semifinals.
The Lions face Orlando Master’s Academy in the SSAC championship at 7 p.m. Saturday in Lakeland.
On the season, Barbar has completed 71 percent of his passes for 2,831 yards and 30 touchdowns against six interceptions. He has also rushed for 110 yards and four touchdowns.
South Florida HEAT swimming’s Erika Pelaez and Kaii Winkler, St. Thomas Aquinas girls’ volleyball’s Mikayla Porter and Archbishop McCarthy boys’ golf’s Brett Moore rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
