Pine Crest volleyball standout Mia gold is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Gold, a sophomore had 18 kills, 19 digs and four blocks to lead the Panthers to a regional semifinal win over Cardinal Gibbons. She also had 21 kills and 10 digs in the Panthers’ regional final loss to Gulliver Prep.
Gold finished her season with 398 kills (averaging 4.4 per set), 260 digs (averaging 2.9 per set) and 38 service aces.
St. Thomas Aquinas football’s James Madison II, American Heritage girls’ golf’s Katherine Schaeffer, Somerset Academy boys’ golf’s Gabriel Holtz and Taravella boys’ bowling’s Braiden Meyers rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
