Results are in. Pines Charter football standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week

Pembroke Pines Charter football standout Samuel Mitchell IV is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Mitchell, a junior defensive end recorded four sacks, six tackles including five for loss, forced four fumbles and recovered one to lead the Jaguars to a win over Coral Springs Taravella and the school’s first ever 4-0 start.

Entering Pines Charter’s road game against West Broward on Friday, Mitchell has totaled 19 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, the four forced fumbles and six pass breakups and an interception this season.

Pine Crest boys’ golf’s Alexaner Weinberg, West Broward football’s Joshua Moore, Coconut Creek football’s Jordan Thompson and Everglades football’s Makhari Tucker rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
