Results are in. Cypress Bay baseball standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week
Cypress Bay baseball standout Ian Guevara is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Guevara, a senior, struck out nine over six innings and allowed one earned run and three hits to lead the Lightning to a 2-1 win over Taravella on April 18.
On the season, Guevara is 4-1 with a 3.67 ERA and 50 strikeouts against 31 walks over 34 1/3 innings spanning eight appearances.
Cypress Bay is 11-8-1.
Flanagan baseball’s Brandon Ostalaza, Pine Crest girls tennis’ Michaela Landry, Stoneman Douglas girls’ lacrosse’s Taylor McGovern and Cardinal Gibbons boys’ volleyball’s Gabriel Nejad rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
