American Heritage girls soccer’s Sami Villaverde is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Villaverde, a sophomore, scored four goals to lead the Patriots to their first state final in four years with a 6-0 win over Wesley Chapel Cypress Creek. Villaverde also scored the lone goal on a penalty kick to beat Archbishop McCarthy in the regional final.

North Broward Prep boys’ lacrosse’s Jacob Tannenbaum, NSU University School boys’ soccer’s Rafael Guerra, Pines Charter boys’ basketball’s Jeremy Elyzee and Cardinal Gibbons girls’ basketball’s Konstantina Mantziori rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
