Results are in. North Broward Prep basketball standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week
North Broward Prep girls’ basketball’s Riley Weiss is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Weiss, a senior and Columbia signee, scored 30 points in a victory over Somerset Canyons to lead the Eagles to a district championship. She followed that up with a 32-point, seven-assist effort in a 72-41 win over St. Brendan in a Region 4-4A quarterfinal on Thursday.
On the season, Weiss is averaging 29.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 4.5 steals per game.
North Broward Prep is 21-6 on the season and will face Boynton Beach Somerset Academy — Canyons on Tuesday in the regional semifinals.
Monarch boys’ soccer’s Alexander Jimenez, Cardinal Gibbons boys’ basketball’s Samuel Vil, South Plantation boys’ basketball’s Omarri Wallace and University School girls’ soccer’s Taylor Smith rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
