Results are in. Everglades edge rusher voted the fans’ Broward football defensive MVP
Miramar Everglades edge rusher Kenley Israel is the fans’ choice for top defensive player in Broward for the 2022 season, as voted on by readers.
Although his team struggled to a 4-6 record, Israel stood out with his ability to disrupt offenses and finished the season with 20 sacks. He also led Everglades with 62 tackles, 26.5 total tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hurries while forcing two fumbles, recovering one fumble and blocking a punt.
Israel was one of 10 players on the poll, which received 28,842 votes.
The other nine: Miramar’s Tre Rigby, Chaminade-Madonna’s Jeno Junius, Blanche Ely’s Harlem Howard, Monarch’s Gavin Peacock, American Heritage’s David Vadala, St. Thomas Aquinas’ King Mack, Dillard’s Armondo Blount, Fort Lauderdale’s Jalyn Jackson and Cardinal Gibbons’ Greg Otten.
The Miami Herald will be publishing its choices for Broward County Players of the Year for football in late January.
