Results are in. Chaminade football standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week
Chaminade-Madonna defensive lineman Wayne Peart is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Peart, a senior, had three of the Lions’ six sacks in their 49-16 win over West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman to advance to the Class 1M state semifinals. The defensive tackle on the season has 15 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and a fumble recovery as an anchor for Chaminade’s defense.
The Lions host True North Academy in the Class 1M state semifinals on Friday for a spot in the state championship next week.
Plantation American Heritage running back Mark Fletcher, St. Thomas Aquinas running back Jordan Lyle, Cardinal Gibbons boys’ soccer’s Jason Trujillo and American Heritage girls’ soccer’s Sami Villaverde rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
