Results are in. Miramar football standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week
Miramar football standout Nate Henry is the Miami-Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Henry, a senior running back, ran for three touchdowns including the go-ahead score with 1:40 left to play in the Patriots’ 29-24 win over Miami Southridge in the Region 4-3M semifinals. The win clinched Miramar’s first trip to the regional finals since 2013.
On the season, Henry has rushed for 815 yards and six touchdowns on 89 carries, and also caught nine passes for 89 yards to help the Patriots compile a 10-1 record.
More than 11,000 votes were cast in this week’s poll, with Henry receiving 55 percent of the votes. Pompano Beach Blanche Ely quarterback Nah’Coy Daniels, Coconut Creek Monarch quarterback AJ Hairston, and South Florida HEAT swimmers Kaii Winkler and Erika Pelaez rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
