Results are in. St. Thomas Aquinas football standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week
St. Thomas Aquinas football standout Hezekiah Harris is the Miami-Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Harris, a senior quarterback, had five touchdowns - four passing and one rushing - to propel the Raiders to a 59-14 rout of Coconut Creek in a Region 3-3M quarterfinal.
On the season, Harris has completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,197 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing just two interceptions. He has also run for 185 yards and three touchdowns.
More than 11,000 votes were cast in this week’s poll, with Harris receiving 73 percent of the votes. Sagemont girls’ golf’s Ariana Silva, Fort Lauderdale girls’ soccer’s Lily O’Neil, Archbishop McCarthy boys’ soccer’s Shane Thompson and Calvary Christian football’s Reggie Heywood rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
