Results are in. Aquinas volleyball standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week

St. Thomas Aquinas girls’ volleyball standout Mikayla Porter is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Porter, a sophomore, totaled 20 assists, 14 kills and 11 digs to lead the Raiders to a four-set win over South Plantation and the District 14-6A title.

She followed up that effort with 11 kills, six digs, two blocks and one service ace in Aquinas’ 3-0 sweep over Cooper city in the regional quarterfinals on Wednesday. St. Thomas Aquinas (16-12) hosts Southwest Miami on Saturday in the regional semifinals.

American Heritage running back Mark Fletcher, North Broward Prep running back DeAndre Desinor, Coral Glades golfer Jade Scott and Coral Springs Charter girls’ volleyball’s Alexandra Bruno rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
