Results are in. West Broward football standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week
West Broward High football standout Jordan Rengifo is the Miami-Dade High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Rengifo, a senior defensive lineman, recorded three sacks, five tackles for loss and nine tackles overall to lead the Bobcats to a 25-21 district victory over Somerset Academy.
On the season, Rengifo is second on West Broward with 30 tackles and leads the team with nine sacks and three forced fumbles. West Broward is 3-2 on the season heading into its non-district matchup on Friday night against South Broward.
More than 52,000 votes were cast in this poll, with Rengifo receiving 55 percent of the votes. Blanche Ely football’s Harlem Howard, American Heritage football’s Brandon Innis and Dillard girls’ cross-country’s Raquel Edwards rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
