Results are in. Pine Crest volleyball standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week

Pine Crest girls’ volleyball outside hitter Mia Gold is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Gold, a freshman, has been Pine Crest’s primary offensive threat this season. She leads the team with 248 kills to go along with 23 service aces and nine blocks and has also been steady defensively with 110 digs.

She had 40 combined kills and 17 digs in a three-set win over Oxbridge Academy and a five-set loss to Palm Beach Benjamin.

“I am so excited by this honor, but for me it belongs to my whole team and coaches who have worked so hard this year,” Gold said.

More than 127,000 votes were cast in this poll, with Gold receiving 39 percent of the votes. Cardinal Gibbons quarterback Dylan Rizk, North Broward Prep boys’ golfer Sean Richards and Chaminade-Madonna quarterback Cedric Bailey rounded out this week’s participants.

The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
