Jovon Durante paces Miramar Patriots with 3 TD catches

Coming off a disappointing loss last week to St. Thomas Aquinas, Miramar (3-2) won its District 12-8A opener against Western (0-5, 0-2), beating the Wildcats 49-0 en route to the Patriots’ first win at home this season.

Senior receiver Jovon Durante led the Patriots with three touchdowns on three catches for 134 yards. Western could not keep up with Durante, who blazed past the Wildcats for catches of 34, 53 and 47 yards.

The Patriots led 29-0 at the half but quickly made it 42-0 with two interceptions for touchdowns by senior Herbert Miller and sophomore Brian Edwards for 35 yards and 47 yards, respectively, to open the third quarter.
