St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker decommits from Hurricanes in ‘hardest decision I’ve made’
Anthony Solomon will head north for his college football career.
The St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker announced Sunday night on his Twitter account that he has de-committed from the Miami Hurricanes’ 2019 recruiting class and will sign with the Michigan Wolverines.
“In Life the only constant is change,” Solomon wrote in his Twitter message, “and with that thought and a heavy heart I announce to the university of Miami that it is in my best interest to De-commit from the hurricanes. I am now committed to The University of Michigan. Make no mistake this is the hardest decision I’ve made. Throughout the recruitment cycle The University of Michigan, Coach [Jim] Harbaugh and Coach [Don] Brown have never given up on me. I will sign with Michigan. With that I do with Coach [Mark] Richt and the Canes Gods blessings.”
Minutes later, Solomon tweeted a pair of pictures of himself in Michigan gear from his official visit this weekend to Ann Arbor.
Solomon, a four-star prospect, is the No. 10 outside linebacker and No. 28 player in the state of Florida regardless of position in this recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports composite ranking.
Solomon finished his senior season at St. Thomas Aquinas with a team-high 63 tackles, serving as a key cog on a defense that gave up an average of just 9.2 points per game and recorded shutouts in seven of 15 games. The Raiders finished as Class 7A runners-up after losing the state title game to Lakeland 33-20 at Camping World Stadium on Dec. 7.
With Solomon’s commitment, Michigan now has 25 players pledged to its 2019 class that 247Sports has ranked eighth in the country. The Hurricanes are now down to 14 commits and are ranked 34th nationally.
Verbal commitments are non-binding until a player signs a national letter of intent. The three-day early signing period begins Wednesday and ends on Friday. National Signing Day is Feb. 6.
