Westminster Academy cross-country sweeps region. Plus basketball, soccer, state golf

Westminster Academy swept the Region 4-1A Cross-Country Team Championships at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.

The boys scored 73 points, 54 points better than runner-up Sheridan Hills Christian. The girls totaled 52 points, 40 points ahead of runner-up True North.

Lucas Latimore, a junior, won the individual boys’ region title in 16 minutes 16.9 seconds to lead the Lions, which had four runners in the Top 10. Benjamin Francis, a Highlands Christian junior, was close behind for second of 115 runners in 16:17.1 and South Florida HEAT senior Joseph Dorn third.

Noelle Richardson, a junior, paced the Lions’ girls’ team by placing second in 19:11.6. Senior Naomie Debomy of the South Florida HEAT was third and senior Sabrina Martinez of Riviera Prep fourth. Westminster had three runners in the Top 10.

State golf

Ranson Everglades 8th grader Axel Monssoh was the top finisher of Broward and Miami-Dade golfers in the Class 1A boys’ division of the 2025 FHSAA Golf State Championships in Howey-In-The-Hills.

He shot 147 (74-73) to tie for 17th of 97 state qualifying golfers. Pine Crest sophomore Finn Foster was Broward’s top finisher in 31st (79-72--151).

In the girls’ competition, Ransom Everglades freshman Nina Fischer was the top Broward/Miami-Dade golfer, tying for 21st at 146 (77-69). Pine Crest 7th grader Harper Kiss was the best Broward finisher, placing 27th of 92 golfers at 148 (74-74).
