Results are in. Archbishop McCarthy soccer standout voted Broward High School Athlete of the Week
Archbishop McCarthy girls’ soccer standout Francesca Durand is the Broward High School Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.
Durand scored a goal in each of the Mavericks’ wins over Palmetto on Dec. 6 and South Florida HEAT on Dec. 8. She followed that up with a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over Somerset Academy on Monday.
On the season, Archbishop McCarthy is a perfect 11-0. Durand, a junior, leads the team with eight goals and has chipped in three assists as well.
About 17,000 votes were cast in this week’s poll. Pembroke Pines Charter girls’ soccer’s Marissa Martin, South Plantation boys’ basketball’s Jaymar Previl, Cypress Bay football’s Ryder Lewin and Chaminade-Madonna’s Jeremiah Smith rounded out this week’s participants.
The Miami Herald Athlete of the Week polls — now one each for Miami-Dade and Broward counties — open Sunday every week and close around 10 p.m. Thursday.
