Thursday high school football games in Dade, Broward postponed due to Hurricane Ian
The South Florida high school football schedule is getting shaken up this week.
With Miami-Dade and Broward public schools closed on Wednesday and Thursday because of Hurricane Ian, 15 football games scheduled for Thursday in the county have been postponed.
The expectation is that at least some Friday games are also going be moved to later dates due to lack of practice time.
One of the most highly-anticipated of those - the national top 25 clash between District 12-2M rivals Plantation American Heritage and Cardinal Gibbons has been moved to Saturday at noon at Gibbons.
Of the 15, eight are district games that will have to be rescheduled.
The three district matchups in Miami-Dade originally scheduled for Thursday were Miami Booker T. Washington vs Miami Jackson (District 14-2M); Doral Academy vs Miami Lakes Goleman (District 15-4M); Miami Palmetto vs Coral Gables (District 16-4M). Doral will now host Goleman on campus at 6 p.m. on Monday night.
The five Broward district contests: Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson at Fort Lauderdale Dillard (11-3M); Parkland Stoneman Douglas at Coral Springs (12-4M); Fort Lauderdale Stranahan vs Hallandale (12-2M); Hollywood McArthur at Hollywood Hills (13-3M); and Coral Springs Coral Glades at Weston Cypress Bay (13-4M).
The other seven games, a mix of non-district matchups and games featuring independent teams who are not part of FHSAA classifications: South Miami vs Homestead (non-district game); Hialeah-Miami Lakes vs Mourning (independent); Coral Park at Reagan (independent); Miami Sunset at Varela (independent); Miami Country Day at Berean Christian (independent); Pompano Beach vs Taravella (non-district) and Ocoee Legacy Charter and Avant Garde (non-district).
Make-up dates have not yet been announced.
