Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Daniel Restrepo, Doral Academy, baseball: Restrepo totaled a combined seven RBI in two games and delivered the decisive runs in each game at state to help the Firebirds win their first state title. Restrepo’s walk-off RBI single lifted Doral to a 5-4 win in extra innings in the state semifinals against Tampa Sickles. He then hit a three-run home run to give the Firebirds enough of a cushion to beat Pensacola Pace 5-4 in the final.

Ali Solo, Western, softball: Solo threw a complete game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out four to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over Miami Palmetto in the Region 4-7A final.

Jake Clemente, Douglas, baseball: Clemente gave up only one hit in his first career complete game and hit a home run in the Eagles’ 4-1 semifinal win over Oviedo Hagerty and then hit another home run in their 10-0 win over Palm Beach Gardens to help Douglas win its second consecutive state championship.

Stephanie Basso, Coral Springs Charter, softball: Basso went 3 for 3 with eight RBI to lead the Panthers to a 16-1 victory over Westminster Christian in a Region 4-3A semifinal.

Edan Playa, Somerset Silver Palms, softball: Playa struck out 11 and gave up no earned runs over seven innings to lead the Stallions to a 5-1 win over SLAM in the Region 4-3A semifinals.
