The results are in. Belen water polo standout voted Miami Herald player of the week

Belen Jesuit water polo’s Carlos Veccio is the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Veccio, a senior, was a driving force for the Wolverines to clinch their first state title since 2016. He scored 14 combined goals in the final two rounds of the playoffs, including a game-high nine in the state final.

On the season, Veccio scored 90 goals while also adding in 36 assists, 22 steals and 29 ejections drawn as Belen went a perfect 20-0.

More than 72,000 votes were cast in this week’s poll, with Veccio receiving 50 percent of the vote. Southwest baseball’s Jesus Moreno, Palmetto softball’s Zaria Wright, West Broward baseball’s Jason Wachs and American Heritage baseball’s Ray Bermudez were the other contenders for this week.

The Miami Herald will conduct this poll weekly, with polls opening Monday morning and closing at 10 p.m. Thursday.
