Poll: Which high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (March 14)
The spring season is in full swing as teams play crucial regular season matchups with a little over two months left on the high school sports calendar.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in South Florida high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, March 17, around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.
Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Kristian Noriega, Western, baseball: Noriega helped the Wildcats go 3-0 this past week, first going 3 for 3 with a home run, two RBI and two stolen bases in a 5-2 win over McArthur. He also homered and drove in two runs in a 4-3 comeback win over Flanagan and had a double and an RBI in a win over Monarch.
▪Juliette Avila, Braddock softball: Avila hit for the cycle and finished with eight RBI in the Bulldogs’ 28-24 win over Southridge.
▪Zaniya Wilson, North Miami, girls’ track and field: Wilson won the 100-meter dash, long jump and triple jump titles at the Falcon Relays Invitational.
▪Gabriel Maristanny, St. Brendan, boys volleyball: Maristanny had a tremendous performance in a victory over Ransom Everglades as he finished with 36 kills and 11 digs.
▪Emma Neclerio, Cardinal Gibbons, girls’ lacrosse: Neclerio finished with 10 saves and posted a 67% save accuracy to help the Chiefs beat Pompano Beach and move to 6-0 to start this season a year after the team won only two games overall.
