They led their teams to state championships. Now, they’re finalists for coach of the year

The head coaches of South Florida’s three state championship-winning football teams have been named finalists for the Florida Dairy Farmers Football Coach of the Year award.

Northwestern’s Max Edwards, Cardinal Gibbons’ Matt DuBuc and Chamiande-Madonna’s Dameon Jones were voted as the top coach in Class 6A, Class 5A and Class 3A, respectively, making them their classifications representative on the nine-coach finalists list. The other coaches in the running: Jacksonville Mandarin’s Bobby Ramsay in Class 8A, Lakeland’s Bill Castle in 7A, Raines’ Deran Wiley in 4A, North Florida Christian’s Steve Price in 2A, Madison County’s Mike Coe in 1A and Orlando Christian Prep’s Guerschom Demosthenes among independent schools.

In player of the year voting, Columbus’ Henry Parrish finished third in Class 8A behind Mandarin’s Carson Beck and Wellington’s Mark-Antony Richards, University School’s Kenny McIntosh finished third in Class 4A behind Raines’ Brandon Marshall and Cocoa’s Willie Gaines, and Chaminade’s John Dunmore placed third in Class 3A behind King’s Academy’s Justin Wake and Baldwin’s Gavin Screws.
