Three South Florida basketball teams to play in prestigious City of Palms tournament

Three South Florida’s top high school basketball teams are making their way to Fort Myers for the prestigious City of Palms tournament, which features top prep teams from around the country.

Fort Lauderdale University School and Miami Christian — the defending Class 5A and 3A state champions — are part of the event’s main 16-team bracket and begin play at the SunCoast Credit Union Arena on Tuesday. U School opens up against St. Louis’ Vashon High at 6 p.m. while Miami Christian begins the tournament against Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern at 7:45 p.m. Each team in the main bracket will play four games, with competition concluding on Saturday.

Miami Palmetto, a likely contender in Class 8A, will also make an appearance in Fort Myers, playing against Lakeland at 3:45 p.m. Thursday in one of three Sunshine Series games.
