WINTER PARK– Terry and Suzanne traveled from Montreal to Orlando to witness something special.

They proudly watched their son, Kevin Owens, win the WWE NXT title from longtime friend Sami Zayn in the main event of WWE NXT TakeOver: Rival on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Full Sail Live at Full Sail University in Winter Park, near Orlando.

“We’re very, very proud of him,” said Terry just after Owens won the title and was celebrating in the ring. “We’re living the dream with him.”

While hoisting the belt high, Owens pointed at his parents and his young son, Owen, who also attended the historic event with his friend, Jayden. Owen is named after Kevin’s favorite wrestler, the late, great Owen Hart.

“We always knew he had the talent to do this, but it’s something very hard to do,” Terry said, “He’s worked so hard and has such passion for this. He has good values, too. He takes care of his family and has a passion for wrestling, something he’s always had.”

Owens defeated his Canadian brethren for the belt before a sold-out crowd at Full Sail Live and up to 1-million more watching live via WWE Network.

Linked together for more than 12 years as best friends, tag partners and sometimes rivals, Owens and Zayn, both 30, have come a long way from their earlier days wrestling in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and then tearing it up on the indies like Ring of Honor and overseas.

“It’s incredible. You have two guys here who are from the same area, known each other for a long time, were wrestling at 17-, 18-, 19-years-old in basements and at pool bars with 150-200 people [watching],” Terry said. “To see where they both are now, it’s incredible, crazy.”

Whether attending with 150 fans at a local lodge or helping their son and his family move from Canada to Orlando or watching with a sold-out crowd on a live show on WWE Network at Full Sail, Terry and Suzanne were there -- showing their support.

That made winning the WWE NXT title on that night even better.
