Training for her upcoming fight on UFC Fight Night on FOX has been different for undefeated strawweight Tecia Torres.
Born in Fall River, Mass., Torres, who trains at American Top Team in (South Florida) Coconut Creek, meets Rose Namajunas (4-2) in a rematch as part of UFC Fight Night on FOX on Saturday, April 16 from the Amalie Arena in Tampa.
Torres (7-0) not only needs to train her body but her mind, too, as she is currently studying to obtain her masters degree in criminology.
Torres, 26, discussed both disciplines on The Roman Show.
“I’ve been in full mode with fight camp and as a graduate student this year,” she said. “I am juggling through it. Monday though Wednesday I am in the gym twice; then I have school at night. Those days are hard. The other days are training and writing essays. Time management has been key.”
Namajunas and Torres met in Invicta FC with Torres winning by unanimous decision. Namajunas and Torres also were part of the UFC reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.
Torres said her opponent has evolved since their last meeting. Namajunas defeated Paige VanZant in December by submission. VanZant is currently a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
Namajunas and Torres will be battling in a different kind of art form on Saturday night in Tampa.
“[Namajunas] looks great. It was a one-sided fight. She dominated Paige,” Torres said. Going into our fight, it’s not going to be easy. I have different qualities than Paige. I think me and Rose match up well. Our styles are different. She’s well rounded on the ground, but I’m better as a striker.”
Torres also talks about the upcoming fight between UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha.
